It's summer and I feel like I'm almost sinking again.
I don't mean that.
Well, maybe I do.
Kinda.
Sorta.
It's just that we're well into tournament season for both John's and Drew's teams and if I'm not careful I could let myself be overwhelmed. I made that mistake in the past and the result was panic attacks that seemed to come out of the blue (i.e. after baseball season was over), which led me to get a complete checkup at the doctor and come away with a diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder.
Nice, huh?
Well, at least now I know my tendency to want to run in the other direction when faced with certain responsibilities is not completely a lack of maturity, an inability to put on my big girl panties and deal with what needs to be done. I can do those things, it's just how I feel about them that's annoying. I'm not debilitated (except when the rare panic attack rears its ugly head and I can do nothing but shake and control my breathing); I'm not medicated for this condition, since it is mostly under control. But it still sucks.
Well, I feel better now that that's out there. <smile>
We haven't been doing much this summer except baseball and living life.
We've gone the pool a few times, both in the neigborhood and at the grandparents' house in the country.
AJ (5) learned to ride a 2-wheeler.
Cate (8) has picked up an interest in the Kit Kittredge American Girl books after our last visit to Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal. I had told her that the character, Kit, was from Cincinnati.
Connor (12) is all about fishing and gardening and anything science-related.
Drew (10) and John (17) are all about baseball, even in their down time.
John recently celebrated his 17th birthday, which comes with some new driving privileges and a new curfew. He's registered with the school district again so he can take two classes and be eligible to play for their baseball team next spring (yes, it's official). He's still officially homeschooled, meaning I have a boatload of NCAA paperwork to wade through in the next 2 years. I don't mind it though, since I kind of like that kind of busy schoolish stuff. <grin>
Lizzy (14) is reading another book by John Green (Looking For Alaska) and is counting down the days until we go to the Emblem 3 concert at Bogart's.
Julia (18) is working on renewing her temps so she can get her driver's license.
Matt is traveling and going to baseball tournaments when he's home and I drive people places and spend way too much money on food.
We have tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and beans growing in containers on our deck.
I can hardly believe June is almost over!
July should be interesting as Drew's team has a chance of going to Puerto Rico if they win the local qualifier tournament. John's team will be heading to Atlanta, so I guess that will be our summer "vacation" spot. I need to do some research so we can make the most of our downtime. At the very least, I hope to visit some online friends who live in the area. If you know of some cool, interesting, or educational things to do within an hour of Atlanta, please leave a comment!
And that's about it. I spend way too much time on the computer doing nothing in particular, which is a bad thing for me. I don't even spend that time tweeting, leaving status updates on FB, posting to this blog or reading others. It's really quite sad.
